Just three hours drive west from Melbourne, the northern Grampians National Park is a dry, rugged landscape that’s quintessentially Australian. Wide open plains, myriad gum trees, wildflowers and a horizon of earthy hues. It’s almost too pretty for words. It’s also ideal olive growing terrain. At the base of Mount Zero you’ll find biodynamic, family-run farm Mount Zero Olives, who have been producing some of the best Manzanilla and Gordal olives in the region for over 70 years. Luckily for us, they have opened their property and partnered with luxury camping brand Under Sky to offer an intimate hotel experience like no other.
Fourteen luxury Homecamp bell tents have been set up on the edge of their olive groves, complete with woven floor rugs, wooden furniture and a queen sized bed fitted with insanely cosy Hunting for George linen. Breathe in the fresh mountain air, pour yourself a glass of vino and wander around the property watching the kangaroos hop across the grasslands. If you’re feeling adventurous, Mount Zero is the perfect spot to watch the sunset. It’s a fairly moderate climb and the views from the summit are simply breathtaking. Nearby Mount Difficult and Hollow Mountain are also great hiking tracks during the day for more experienced rock climbers, with steep inclines and challenging terrain.

Back at camp, rug up and tuck into homemade wood fired pizzas or cook up a feast on the bbq’s before relaxing with friends around a bonfire long into the night. Be sure to pick up cheese, wine and other essential supplies whilst exploring the area, as it’s self catered for dinner mid-week. Onsite Millstone Café should be able to help you out with anything you may have forgotten. The best part? The stars! Dining under the open night sky, gazing up at billions of little twinkling stars that make up the Milky Way as you walk back to your tent.
No need to set an alarm, you’ll no doubt wake naturally to the morning warblers. Enjoy a slow morning and delicious rustic breakfast hamper brought to your canvas door with freshly baked pistachio croissants, well made coffee and muesli topped with poached quince hand picked from the communal garden. You don’t even need to get out of your pyjamas – heaven.
Under Sky at Mount Zero Olives is the ideal base for exploring this picturesque region with innumerable hikes, trails and wineries just a short drive away. Or simply relax with a good book on one of your deck chairs wrapped in a wool blanket and watch the emus graze between the olive trees. With its captivating beauty, a stay at the Grampians is the perfect time to power down, switch off and relax in one of the most beautiful parts of Australia.
